Our 5th annual celebration of Forest School!
Forest School Day (FSD), October 14th 2022 is the 5th annual celebration of UK Forest School. FSD was launched in 2018 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the start of UK Forest School.
Connecting, sharing and celebrating all that is great and wonderful about UK Forest School.
We are inviting the Forest School community to hold local and community celebrations in their Forest school settings. Creating inclusive, playful and joyful celebrations, full of laughter, Forest School stories, campfire cooking, woodland games and leaf bunting. Celebrating the Forest School values way no balloons but seasonal creativity and nature crafts and of course hot chocolate!
About Forest School Day
Katey Hügi, a Forest School Leader based in Hertfordshire came up with the idea of an annual Forest School Day five years ago to thank individuals in the Forest School community. Their dedication and commitment to Forest School often goes under the radar and the benefits that children receive from the experience deserves recognition.
Forest School Day’s mission is to create a recognised National Forest School Day framework and pave the way for future years. Designed for and by the Forest School Community that promotes best practice.
UK Forest School has been connecting children and adults to nature for nearly 30 years!
Forest School Day is a chance to thank individuals for their commitment and dedication to Forest School. Our mission is to be the catalyst to inspire individuals from the Forest School community to celebrate together, to design, create and deliver a Forest School Day we can be proud of and one that promotes best practice. To collect and share inspirational Forest School stories, resources and ideas to support the 2021 celebrations.
In the UK we have over 14,000 (estimate) Forest School leaders. Each week in the UK 1000’s of children attend regular Forest School sessions held on their school grounds, local parks or woodlands.
The Forest School community has been invited to hold local events and share the experience of Forest School with their wider community. These local celebrations are a fantastic way for people who don’t have the opportunity to attend a Forest School session an insight into what happens and experience for themselves the reason to celebrate.
The delivery of Forest School sessions include 6 principles that have been created by the Forest School Association whose purpose is to promote best practice and “quality forest school for all” This release will help us to spread the message to the wider community that they are invited to join in with Forest School Day and to give a deeper understanding of Forest School.
The 2021 Forest School Day was a great success, with over 10.1k adults and children celebrating together. 2021 celebrations map. This year we are expecting a fantastic turn out as countries all over the world.
This year the Forest School Day is focusing on creating inclusive playful and joyful Forest School Day celebrations in Forest School style whilst asking the question ‘Why are you grateful for forest school?’ We encourage those taking part to share their activities and photos from the day using:
